#10 Spotify x Genius — Showing Lyrics and Relevant Information regarding Song and Artists
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, while you stare at the album art when the song plays? Yes, I do too, especially when a particular song I’m fixated to is selected to play on Repeat.
However, it can be very monotonous when this happens. What if there could be more information that Spotify could give to the listener. This was always something I thought that could be added to the app.
Musixmatch used to do this brilliantly. As someone who’s constantly circulating between MusixMatch, Spotify and Apple Music, I always wished if there could be a way Spotify could show lyrics.
And it does, in collaboration with Genius now. And it’s freaking brilliant.
So, the algorithm by Genius is probably detecting on when the artist is singing and shows lyrics at that time.
This works well for the listener/ user since that’s the most contextually relevant time for them to read the lyrics to understand what the artist is singing.
What’s better though is when the artist stops singing and lets the tune play in the background. Genius recognises this and contextually switches to show relevant details about artists, their thoughts, and more on why they collaborated.
I think this is absolutely brilliant and definitely is a one up on the experience Spotify provides to it’s listeners.
